English and Spanish Lessons in North America

Natively spoken by 82% of the total population, English is the main national language in the United States. However, and in spite of many attempts, it is not the recognized official language. While some states agree with the Federal policy of adopting no official language, others adopt English alone or together with local languages, and others adopt bilingualism.

The truth is that, spoken by over 12% of the total population, Spanish is the second most common language in the country. It is important to point out that The US ranks fifth among the countries with the largest Spanish-speaking population, only outnumbered by Argentina, Mexico, Spain and Colombia.

It cannot be said that speaking only English in the United States is enough. The effects of globalization are starting to show, and everyone should be prepared. Speaking proper English is as important as learning a foreign language. Impressively, those two skills are closely connected. When we learn languages, we expand our mind horizons. We have a new view of grammar and we improve our communication abilities because we have a broader thinking perspective. The dialects known as North American English include both American and Canadian English. In Canada, a multitude of languages are spoken. Acknowledged as the Official Languages of the country, English and French are the mother tongues of 59.7% and 23.2% of Canadians respectively.
